I have just finished reading the book “The Spy and the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War” by Ben Macintyre. An interesting book to understand the reasons why someone can become a spy against his government and of all the problems of the soviet model. No one wants to be the bearer of bad news, it is much better to shut up and wait to see if the problem goes away by itself: if you lose a suspect traitor that you were ordered to follow, do nothing and wait for him to ger back home. If you know everything about your government’s secret police, the best way to fight it is to tell all you know to your government’s enemy and hope that it will bring it down.
